Cardowan, Stepps (2010)

The Commission has conducted a review of the boundary between North Lanarkshire council area and Glasgow City council area at Cardowan by Stepps. This review was in line with the Ministerial Direction made to the Commission by Scottish Ministers in March 2008 to review this boundary.

This review began when the Commission decided that a review was required at its meeting of April 2008. The Commission agreed its Initial Proposals for the boundary in May 2008. The Commission then wrote to the two affected local authorities, seeking representations on the Initial Proposals. In October, the Commission considered the representations received from the local authorities, and agreed to publish the Initial Proposals as its Provisional Proposals for public consultation. That consultation period began on 31 October 2008, and lasted until 30 January 2009 - a period of 13 weeks.

At its meeting of February 2009, the Commission concluded that a Local Inquiry was not required for the Cardowan review, adopted its Provisional Proposals as its Final Recommendations, and agreed to submit its report containing its Final Recommendations to Scottish Ministers. That report was published on 26 March 2009.

Scottish Ministers laid an Order before the Scottish Parliament implementing the Commission's recommendations. The Scottish Parliament approved that Order, with the boundary changes taking effect on 1 April 2010.
