Fifth Statutory Reviews of Electoral Arrangements

We submitted our reports and Final Recommendations, for the number of councillors and the electoral ward boundaries in each of Scotland's 32 local authorities, to Scottish Ministers on 26 May 2016.

The publication of our Final Recommendations marks the end of our role in the electoral review process. We make our reports available for anyone to read through local council offices, libraries and on our website and we publicise them in national and local press and on social media.

On 14 September 2016 Scottish Ministers made their decision on our recommendations. Scottish Government released the following news release.

The Commission made the following statement on 14 September 2016 in response to the decision:

"The Commission submitted 32 reports arising from the 5th Reviews of Local Government Electoral Arrangements to Scottish Ministers in May this year. Our recommendations were made in the interests of effective and convenient local government, following consultation with councils and the public over the last two years, and in accordance with the statutory requirements placed upon us. It is for Scottish Ministers to decide whether to accept or reject those recommendations, and we note today’s announcement by Scottish Government which accepts our recommendations in 27 council areas. We will consider the implications of the forthcoming Islands legislation at the appropriate time and are happy to undertake any further work required by Scottish Ministers."
